KalTrack

Comparison

KalTrack vs Lifesum

A diet-plan-led tracker with strong design, against a tool that only tries to log the meal quickly.

Lifesum: AI Calorie Counter

4.6 from 150,537 ratings · Free

A long-running Swedish app that leads with structured diet plans — keto, high protein, Mediterranean and others — wrapped in some of the best interface design in the category. Food ratings, macro guidance, and a strong sense of being coached rather than just counted.

5.0 from 1 rating · Free

A camera-first tracker. Point at the plate for an AI estimate you confirm in two taps, or scan a barcode or nutrition label to get exact published figures instead. Built around the idea that a photo estimate is an estimate, with cuisine coverage beyond American food databases. New, and small.

Which one to pick

Choose Lifesum: AI Calorie Counter if

you want to be told what to eat, not just what you ate. Lifesum's diet plans and food quality ratings give structure to people who do not want to design their own approach, and the app is genuinely lovely to use.

Choose KalTrack if

you already know what you are doing and want the logging step to disappear.

The verdict

Lifesum and KalTrack are answering different questions. Lifesum answers what should I eat; KalTrack answers what did I just eat, faster.

If you want a plan — keto, high protein, Mediterranean — with meals suggested and food quality scored as you go, Lifesum does that well and KalTrack does not do it at all. There is no coaching layer here, no meal plans, no food ratings. That is a deliberate scope decision, not a roadmap gap.

What KalTrack does is compress logging to about ten seconds by making the camera the primary input, and it is honest about the cost: a photo estimate has real error, so the app shows what it recognised and lets you fix the portion, and keeps exact barcode and label scanning free.

One practical note. Lifesum's plans are behind Premium, as is its photo logging, so compare like for like: a free KalTrack scan allowance against a free Lifesum tier that is mostly search. If structure is what you are missing, none of that matters and you should take Lifesum.

Method: figures come from each app's public App Store listing on the day this page was built, and from each app's own published pricing. Features were checked against the apps' own descriptions. We make KalTrack, so treat this as our account of the difference, not a review.
